Canine hero Larson, an unaffected carrier of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), went home with Suzanne in fall 2019 and is enjoying her new life. She takes long walks, plays in the backyard with Suzanne’s roommate’s dog, Ellie; and is happy to cuddle up with Suzanne any chance that she gets!
Why is Larson a hero?
Larson carries a gene for Duchene Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a devastating and fatal disease that affects children and dogs. Some of her progeny were affected by DMD, enabling researchers to learn more about this disease and develop strategies to treat or cure it.
