Lola (previously named Louisa) has gone home with Ariel to be smooched by her new German Shepherd companion and cozily squished between the cushions of her new leather sofa. Lola is an unaffected carrier of Batten Disease – a fatal, inherited disorder of the nervous system that affects dogs and young children. Children suffering from Batten disease become blind, bedridden and demented; they typically die in their late teens or early twenties. Lola’s research family is studying gene and enzyme therapies for affected dogs, and an enzyme therapy to treat affected children is currently in clinical trials. Thanks for treating our Lola like the queen that she is, Ariel! Enjoy your life together!
